Blogs, podcasts, and random thoughts

Christ, I just cannot keep up with all the changes in the internet community! I just got blogging not long ago, got a myspace account and now I'm slowly caving in to the lure of the podcast. I have found a few that any aspiring filmmaker can find interesting. Now mind you when I say "aspiring" filmmakers I mean those who really haven't done much or those who quite literally are just staring out. But a good one that I found was 2B Pictures Filmmaking Podcast. I got a few good links and book titles from it but for those who need so good info on scheduling, budgeting, directing and so on this is a good one to listen to. Next 2B gave me a good tip on a cast called FilmmakersPod.com lots of good insight there as well on movie making. Finally on the list would be DVD Talk Radio. It's not a filmmaking "how to" podcast but has some good interviews with filmmakers, actors and more. Fun stuff. To get any of theses posdcats go to iTunes and search the podcast section for 2B Pictures and DVD Talk Radio, and FilmmakersPod.

Be forewarned though, just like websites or blogs there are a select group of good ones and a whole lot of crap out there. So if you find any of the good ones please send the name of it to me. I would much appreciate it. I would much rather have some good leads to begin with than dig through a bunch of casts from two a-holes sitting on their couch (mom's couch to be precise) and doing their own commentary on a DVD. Seriously, if you just do random searching you will be knee deep in waste.

Random thoughts:
I'm happy that now the majority of "reality" TV sucks. It always has to me but now it seems like more and more people are starting to agree.

"Crash" - 5 star movie on my Netflix list! Must SEE. (The Paul Haggis one, not the 1996 movie called Crash by David Cronenberg.)

Season 5 of Smallville starts next week and over the summer I have watched all 4 seasons on DVD, just to get caught up. 87 episodes and close to 64 hours of viewing. God I need a friggin' life.

Lost's season premiere totally paid off. For once we didn't get cheated on a reveal! 1 answer = 1,000,000 new questions. Good TV!

I missed the first 2 episodes of House due to movie pre-production meetings. I need a Vicodin.

Arrested Development - For those who don't watch or don't like, you have serious problems.

Who the F**K is watching According to Jim and Yes, Dear??? You have incurable problems.

I have to stop watching so much television.

Movies in my Netflix queue right now:
Oldboy
Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior
The Assassination of Richard Nixon
The Interpreter
Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story

The blogs have changed. From now on there will be 3 different blogs that you can read from us here at Twenty One. First will be mine. I have been a co-owner/writer/director/producer/camera operator/ and so on and son for Twenty One for all 4+ years of it's existence. With such a long list of descriptive terms for what I've done and do for the company if I had to sum up with just one title it would be director. That's what I love, that's what I'm best at and what I want to be known as. Everything else is something I do when needed, but a director is what I am. My blog will be about pretty much anything that I find interesting about film. I'll add tips on directing, pre-production, post-production, working with actors and crew and if it strikes my fancy anything else that I have a opinion on, but I'll try and stick to films and filmmaking.

The second will be from David Cottingham our resident founder/co-owner/producer/actor/writer/editor/and so on and so on. But like me one title defines him best; producer. He has produced each and every one of the 10 films that Twenty One has solely or partly produced.

The third will be from writer Mat Raney our newly acquired member of the Twenty One team. Mat does many things as well but first and foremost he is a writer. He writes novels, screenplays, and now, I'm sure, an informative and entertaining blog.
