I WANT ACTORS!
Friday, October 28, 2005 | 1 Comments
We are in the early stages of pre-production on our new flick, BONE CHINA. After all the excitement during the release of 12 STEPS NOWHERE had settled I was itching for the next project. So here it is and this time it's bigger than anything we've done.

First off there will be an actual budget to actually pay people. Namely actors and crew. That's a whole new environment for me. Don't get me wrong. I love our local actors and anyone who has worked on one of our movies gave a lot. More than I ever deserved or even asked. For that I am truly blessed. But all the work of the last four years has led to this moment.

I am SO excited and look forward to working with actors who "act" for a living. People who are going to come in and take a role and make it their own. In most cases in the past if you looked the part you got it and while that may have been the best we could do (and afford) it was always a challenge. Not to think that even if a "A" lister walked on set it would be a piece of cake but my enthusiasm for the great performance goes up by a million percent.

We've got a "dream" cast and we have many connections in New York and L.A., one of which is bearing it's fruit as I write this, but I'm always looking for more. That is to say headshots, resumes and reels. I'd love to see as many people as I could take on the characters of BONE CHINA. I think any actor could sink their teeth or even change their image with one of these roles. And here's why.

This is a film noir/thriller. The writer, Mat Raney, has taken the characters and given them each their own style, their own film noir archetype. But the right actor can make it entirely their own and I can't wait to watch that and these characters come to life. I feel like a first time director again! New filmmaking toys, new challenges and "real" actors.

There is a great ad campaign that always made me laugh when I see it from S.A.G.Indie. I don't have one in front of me but the gist of it was that your family and friends can be great helpers on the set but let "real" actors act or your movie will suffer.

We've worked long and hard over the years building relationships and contacts. We've spent years working our way through miniDV cams all the way to the Panasonic HD Varicam. From the AVID Xpress to the AVID DS Nitris. From a wheelchair as a dolly to jibs, real dollies and even a helicopter. Our production values can go from the HD camera to a 35mm blow-up! Now the last ingredient is just ripe for the picking.

If you are an actor and you've got talent I want to know about it. You are the only puzzle piece I'm looking for now.
